Würzberg's HOBOS Project at the European Teaching Festival

Christoph Bauer knows exactly what students can learn from honeybees. This biology and chemistry teacher has been using HOneyBee Online Studies (HOBOS) in his lesson plans at the Würzburger Deutschhaus Gymnasium for quite some time. Now, he is presenting HOBOS to an international audience of teachers at this year's Science on Stage teaching festival.

Hardy Leaves HOBOS

Hartmut Vierle (32), a technician at HOBOS, will no longer be working for HOBOS as of March 1st, as he will be pursuing further career development. Konrad Öchsner, an electrical engineer with a concentration in telecommunications, will be taking over his role in the days to come.

HOBOS Made Easy

Short and simple words should be used. All words that belong together with respect to their meaning should be written in the same line. The reader is addressed personally. Words such as “and” or even “or” are allowed at the beginning of each sentence. These are all indicators of the plain language that is now being used by HOneyBee Online Studies.

Jürgen Tautz is the New Communicator

Dr. Jürgen Tautz, the bee scientist and founder of HOBOS was granted this year's Communicator Award from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Association or DFG) as well as the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (Donors' Association for German Science and Humanities).  The DFG honors his many activities and methods to make his scientific results accessible to a wide public audience.

HOBOS Measures the Temperature

When do honeybees prefer to go on outbound flights? What weather keeps them in the hive? What can we tell about the temperature inside the hive at different seasons? On our website (www.hobos.de – HOBOS live – Measured Data) you can recall temperature values from the HOBOS bee hive and the weather station and depict them in a graph in conjunction with one another.
