BEEgroup Würzburg

The BEEgroup, which is a section of the honeybee research in Wuerzburg, is committed to doing research on the honeybee at both the national and international level.

Biozentrum der Universität Würzburg

The Biocenter of the University of Wuerzburg is an international research institution and comprises 15 departments, including: biology (10), medicine (4) and chemistry and pharmacology (1).  Within the Biocenter, outstanding research results are obtained through the combination of molecular and organic approaches.  Many publications in internationally regarded journals, the contribution to several special research programs (SFBs) and international honors and awards highlight the quality of the research done here.  http://www.biozentrum.de

On a day to day basis, the Deutsche Bank and the landmark initiative “Deutschland – Land of Ideas” reward a good idea coming from Germany in the context of the “365 Places in the Land of Ideas” competition.  This helps bring about new innovations for Germany. http://www.land-der-ideen.de/

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the initiative “Wissenschaft im Dialog” (Science in Dialogue) suggest alternating topics to the public with regard to science and research. The Science Year 2009, under the topic “Research Expedition Germany”, focused on research as a whole and was an invitation to discover the scientific landscape of Germany.  The Science Year “Research Expedition Germany” was also borne by the initiative “Science in Dialogue”, the “German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina”, the Robert Bosch Foundation (“Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH”) and the Stifterverband (“Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft”). http://www.forschungsexpedition.de/

UNESCO stands for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.  It is one out of 16 judicially independent specialized agencies of the United Nations.  Today the UN, based in Paris, is made up of 193 member states.  Its stated purpose is to contribute to peace and security by promoting international cooperation through education, science and culture.
The German UNESCO commission convened a national committee for the UN and World Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014).  The committee coordinates the implementation of the World Decade in Germany.  Its management board comprises some 30 institutions and experts, e.g. representatives of the government or the federal states as well as NGOs, media, private economies and science.  About 1000 successful and innovative educational projects were declared official German contributions to the UN Decade by the national committee. http://www.unesco.de/333.html
