Physorg, Jurgen Tautz wins 2012 Communicator Award
Leading bee scientist Jürgen Tautz is the winner of this year's Communicator Award, conferred by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) and the Donors' Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany.
Universität Würzburg, Successful Communicator
The Würzburg bee researcher Jürgen Tautz has received the 2012 Communicator Award of the German Research Foundation. With this award, the Foundation honors Tautz' numerous activities with which he communicates his research findings to the public. The award is endowed with prize money of 50,000 euros.
ENVINET, Bees buzz around ENVINET SARA

The goal of the United Nations’ Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014), for which UNESCO is the lead agency, is to integrate the principles, values and practices of sustainable development into all aspects of education and learning. This educational effort will encourage changes in behavior that will create a more sustainable future in terms of environmental integrity, economic viability and a just society for present and future generations. In 2009 the HoneyBee Online Studies (HOBOS) Project at Wuerzburg University in Wuerzburg, Germany became an “official UNESCO project.”

Early in January this year, I had a visit from a member of the Institute of Northern Ireland Beekeepers, Sam Baird, who brought with him a copy of Jürgen Tautz’s book, The Buzz about Bees. I was enthralled by the fantastic photography in that book which set out in the most wonderful colour the lifecycle of the honey bee. We chatted about Professor Tautz’s BEEgroup in Wurzburg and the new HOney Bee Online Studies project – HOBOS.
