The life of Buzz, a clever honeybee

Vera Trachmann’s beautifully illustrated bilingual German/English children’s book from Schlauberger Verlag provides an introduction into the fascinating world of honeybees.

Buzz the honeybee explains “where we bees come from and how we live, how we behave and all the things we do, how clever we are and (this is very important) how useful we are to nature and to humans like you”.

HOBOS, the bee observatory, will help answer specific questions children may have, such as “Do bees also fly out when there is a bright full moon?” and “How does a bee colony prepare for a storm?”

The book helps children understand what makes honeybees tick, and will also allay any fear of bees: “But if we sting people, we die. And we really don’t want to do that, as I’m sure you can imagine”. Information boxes provide background reference material.

The book is written for children aged 6 and over and for adults who have retained a childlike capacity for wonder.

Buzz and the Honeybees with a foreword by Jürgen Tautz (ISBN: 978-3-9812432-0-8, 2nd edition) costs EUR 23.90.
