Interview with The Concord Consortium
- Please present your business. What's the name?
The Concord Consortium (CC), Inc. (www.concord.org) is an international leader of educational technology. We develop cutting-edge technologies to bring science, math, and engineering education to the 21st century.
- In which way do you support HOBOS?
In the initial phase, HOBOS and CC will collaborate on the applications of thermal vision in science education, specially in biology. In the future, HOBOS and CC will jointly seek funding to support further international collaboration on science education.
- Why do you support HOBOS? What's your motivation?
As scientists, we favor science education projects that are based on authentic science, like the innovative HOBOS project that has been derived from and inspired by Prof. Tautz's decades of research. Honeybees are a fascinating topic that interests many people. They can provide many intriguing learning opportunities to engage students.
We are particularly interested in using IR imaging to study bees. We have recently launched the world's first website that provides IR imaging experiments for science and engineering education (http://energy.concord.org/ir). This website will publish hundreds of IR experiments and videos and hopefully deliver a worldwide impact like our other products. We will promote the topic of IR imaging of honeybees through this website. This topic will be linked to HOBOS and will have HOBOS's advices and inputs (or even host HOBOS's IR videos of bees and beehives). We view this as an immediate linkage between our efforts and, hopefully, in this way, we will support the dissemination of HOBOS to an international audience.
We have conducted the short interview with Charles Xie (The Concord Consortium).
